In October of 2017, three Alpha Kappa Alpha Women – Carla Chaisson, Felisha Lewis and Dawn Jordan-Wells – met in the home of Felisha Lewis to discuss the idea of forming a new chapter in the Northeast Tarrant community. They wanted to serve the community, they wanted little Black girls to have positive role models, they wanted to give back and there was no presence of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® in the cities where they lived. The women began inviting women to join their quest for a charter chapter and by the end of 2017, nearly twenty women (mostly from St. John Church Unleashed) were eager to join with the group, led by Nicky Gibson.

Throughout 2018 the group expanded and continued to create sisterly bonds, through potluck dinners, game nights and brunches after church. In January 2019, the group held its first member interest meeting at St. John Church with twenty-nine interested sorority members ready to serve. Throughout 2019 and 2020 the group continued to grow and the women focused on getting to know the best of one another through sisterly gatherings. They did everything they could to learn, participate in, and financially support the programs of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®

By December 2020, there were more than 50 members actively participating and they were ready to submit their application to become an official Interest Group of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®. On Thursday, February 26, 2021, the historic call was received. The 26th South Central Regional Director, Joya T. Hayes shared the news that the International Board of Directors of Alpha Kappa Alpha had approved their application. The sisters, now known as the Northeast Tarrant Pearls of Sisterhood and Service (Pearls of SAS) were excited and ready to begin implementing the international program targets of the sorority and continue with activities to strengthen sisterly bonds.
